Farmington Historical Society Foundation Presents:
The Lure of Classical Sculpture: Taste and the Antique
Wednesday, May 28
5:30pm Social, 6:00pm Program
$25 Per Person (Complimentary for FHSF Donors)
Since the Renaissance, ancient sculpture has had an enormous impact on Western visual arts and culture for nearly four centuries, including influencing Thomas Jefferson, who was instrumental in bringing Neoclassicism to the United States. Over forty years ago, the publication
Taste and the Antique
provided an accessible introduction to this concept. This seminal work has now been revised and expanded by Dr. Adriano Aymonino of the University of Buckingham in England, author of
Enlightened Eclecticism
, which was awarded the 2022 Berger Prize for the best publication in British art and architecture. An expert on the history of art and collections in the 18th century, Dr. Aymonino will explore the impact of ancient sculpture on the classical tradition embraced by Jefferson.
Reservations are allowed from 04/30/2025 12:00 AM to 05/28/2025 04:00 PM.
